Toxicity
Brominonitrile is a low-toxicity fungicide according to the toxicity classification standard of pesticide in China. The acute transoral LD50 of male rats was 637mg/kg, and that of female rats was 414mg/kg. DBDCB was diluted to 0.3% without any irritation to the skin and mucous membranes of rabbits. There is no teratogenic, mutagenic or carcinogenic effect on animals in the test dose.
Physicochemical properties
Slightly irritating smell. Melting point 52.5-53.2°C, density 970g/ml (20°C), vapor pressure 6.70*10Pa-3 (25°C), insoluble in water (0.212g/100ml 20°C), soluble in acetone, benzene, chloroform, ethanol and other organic solvents.

Brominonitrile was prepared from acrylonitrile by 2-methylene glutardinitrile, which was then added with bromine. In the presence of a catalyst, acrylonitrile dimerized to form 2-methylene-glutaronitrile at 25-30 ºC, and then 213g 97% of 2-methylene-glutaronitrile was passed into bromine 228g at 100ºC until the reaction liquid was light yellow, which was the reaction endpoint. Then a dispersant was added to the reaction solution, and a certain amount of solvent was added, stirring while adding, granular crystals were precipitated, stratified, the solvent layer was removed, pumped and dried to obtain solid brominonitrile.
